Set Up Your Plant Pal

Five minutes, no tools. Watch the video, flip through the guide, and Sprout takes it from there.

Plant Pal on a pot next to its parts: house, roof, Sprout, wicking rope and hooks

Step by Step

You will need: a potted indoor plant, room-temperature water, and your Plant Pal kit.

  1. Soak the rope. A wet rope starts wicking right away. A dry one can take a day to get going.
  2. Hook the clips onto your pot rim and mount the house on them.
  3. Run the rope from the reservoir, through the chimneys and Sprout, into the soil at your chosen depth.
  4. Spiral the buried end around the plant's stem so water spreads evenly.
  5. Fill the reservoir inside the house.
  6. Put the roof back on. It slows evaporation and keeps the water clean.

Done. You're a member of the Pal Pack.

How Deep Should the Rope Go?

Find your plant's tier. Deeper rope means a bigger drink. Two ropes help big pots.

Tier 1

1–2 in deep
Low moisture

Likes to dry out: snake plant, ZZ, rosemary

Tier 2

3–4 in deep
Moderate moisture

Most houseplants: pothos, philodendron, spider plant, herbs

Tier 3

3–4 in deep
Higher moisture

Humidity lovers: peace lily, ferns, calathea, anthurium

Tier 4

5+ in deep
Highest moisture

Stay-damp plants: nerve plant, baby tears, basil, mint

Not on the list? If it's "easy" or "drought-tolerant," start at Tier 1 or 2. If it "loves humidity," start at Tier 3 or 4. Plant Pal is not for succulents or cacti; they like to dry out completely.

Ongoing Care

  • Peek at the water level once a week.
  • Refill when the house is about ¼ full.
  • Plants drink faster in summer and in warm, dry rooms, and slower in winter.
  • Swap in a fresh wicking rope about every three months.

Something Not Right?

Soggy soil? Pull the rope up a bit or use one rope. Dry soil? Refill, push the rope deeper, or add a second rope. Still stuck? Email us at PlantPalSolutions@gmail.com and Sprout will help.
